School Education Act 1999 (WA), Part 3 Division 6 'Home education' — s46 (defines 'home educator'), s47 (application), s48 (CEO registers, certificate issued, registration indefinite until cancelled), s49 (duty to inform CEO of changes), s50–51 (home education moderators; evaluation within 3 months of registration, then at least every 12 months), s52 (CEO may require a further evaluation over a concern), s53 (cancellation grounds, including unsatisfactory progress judged in part against 'the outline of curriculum and assessment in schools established under the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Act 1997'). The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) sets the Western Australian Curriculum but, like NSW's NESA and Victoria's VCAA, has no direct registration role — that sits with the Department alone.

Where Western Australia differs, in detail

The specifics a product built for one state gets wrong everywhere else.

• Registration is indefinite with no renewal cycle at all — the compliance mechanism is a recurring evaluation (3 months, then annually), not a fixed-term registration that lapses and gets renewed, unlike QLD's 12-month cycle.
• A home visit is the statutory default at every evaluation, not an exception — QLD's standard process has no home-visit requirement.
• The legal benchmark is named 'the Western Australian Curriculum,' set by SCSA under its own Act — not 'the Australian Curriculum' by name. Presenting a bare AC v9 code as WA-citable would misname the instrument a moderator is actually checking against.
• WA's mandated-content document carries NO content-description codes at all — verified by reading the revised Mathematics scope and sequence in full. There is no WA code to cite and no target numbering to map AC v9 onto, so a WA family's evidence has to reference WA's strand / sub-strand / year-level wording rather than any code. Any UI that assumes 'every jurisdiction has codes' is wrong here.
• The family's own education program is explicitly not required to reference any curriculum at all — the curriculum test applies at the moderator's evaluation of progress, not as a condition of the plan itself.
• Home-educated WA students are excluded from Year 10 completion certificates, WACE and the ATAR pathway — a different 'what's at stake' framing from a state where home education can lead into standard senior credentials.
• WA's own curriculum is mid-rollout on a per-subject timetable (e.g. Mathematics 'for implementation in 2026', Languages still on the prior framework) — this entry needs to track which subject is on which version, and the no-codes finding above was checked against Mathematics specifically.
