🎯 Today's mission briefing
We are learning to hear the first sound in spoken words and to say the sounds for the letters s, a and t.
You'll know you've got it when:
- I can say the SOUND (not the name) for s, a and t
- I can hear and say the first sound in a word someone says to me
- I can find things around me that start with /s/, /a/ or /t/
The robot who talks in pieces
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Helper, read aloud: I know a robot who can't say words all in one go — he says them in little pieces! When he wants a cat he says 'c... a... t'. Listen to my robot voice and see if you can work out what he's saying: 's... u... n'. (Pause. Let your child guess — say it again slower if needed.) SUN! You did it! You just heard the little sounds hiding inside a word. Today you're becoming a Sound Detective — someone who can catch the sounds inside any word.
