We are learning to explore art materials — rubbing textures, printing with found objects and mixing colours — and to notice the choices artists make.
You'll know you've got it when:
- I can catch a texture with a crayon rubbing and print a pattern with a found object
- I can mix two colours to make a new colour, and say which two I used
- I can look at an artwork and say one choice the artist made — a colour, a shape or a material
Your house is full of hidden pictures
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Helper, read aloud: I have a strange question for you. Have you ever SEEN the bottom of your shoe? Not just looked at it — really seen its pattern? There are hidden pictures all over this house — in the bumps of a coin, the weave of a basket, the ridges of a leaf — and today you're going to catch them, the way artists do. Your tools: paper, a crayon with its jacket off, and your very good eyes. Today, you are a texture hunter!
