You'll know you've got it when:
- I can use the words 'then' and 'now' (and 'past' and 'present') to talk about time
- I can say one thing that was different when my grown-up was little, and one thing that was the same
- I can ask a grown-up a good question about when they were my age
The kid hiding inside your grown-up
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Helper, read aloud: I have a secret to tell you. Inside every grown-up you know, there is a kid hiding. It's true! Inside me there's a kid who was once exactly your age — a kid who had a favourite toy, a best friend, a most-hated chore, and NO idea that one day they'd be your grown-up. Today, you get to be a time detective and find that kid. Your detective tools? Two little words: THEN and NOW.
