Hop, Skip and Gallop: Bossing Your Own Body
π― Today's mission briefing
We are learning to hop, gallop, skip and jump with control, and to name the one secret that makes each skill work.
You'll know you've got it when:
- I can hop along on ONE foot and land softly with a bendy knee
- I can gallop with one foot always leading, and then swap the leading foot
- I can have a good go at skipping with the step-hop, step-hop pattern
- I can name one thing my body does that makes a skill work β eyes up, soft knees, arms swinging
Nobody sits down for this one
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Helper, read aloud: Right β stand up. Push the chair in. This whole lesson happens on your feet, and it starts with a challenge. Get to the other side of the room WITHOUT walking and WITHOUT running. Go! ... What did you do? Did you jump? Bunny hop? Slide sideways? Crawl like a lizard? Now go back again a completely different way. And once more, a third way β and this one has to be the silliest. Three ways across one room, and you have not even started learning yet. Your body already knows more than you think it does.
