We are learning to plan and create an artwork of a place we love, using composition — deciding what goes in front, in the middle and behind.
You'll know you've got it when:
- I can point out the foreground, middle ground and background in an artwork and explain what the artist put where
- I can plan my artwork with quick thumbnail sketches BEFORE making the real one
- I can create an artwork of my place and say why I placed things where I did
- I can describe what an Australian artist's artwork shows about their place, using things I can actually see in it
Close your eyes — you're already there
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Close your eyes and stand in your favourite place. Maybe it's under the mango tree, or on the trampoline, or at the beach, or curled in the good chair by the window. Look around in your mind: what's closest to you? What's far away? What's the ONE thing that makes this place yours? Hold that picture — because today you're going to get it out of your head and onto paper, the way artists have done with their places forever.
