Play Smart: Space, Timing and the Thinking Game
π― Today's mission briefing
We are learning to use space, timing and quick decisions as strategies in games, and to explain how attack and defence thinking transfers between different sports.
You'll know you've got it when:
- I can explain what a strategy is: a plan for where to be, when to move and what to do next
- I can create space in attack and close space down in defence, and say which one I'm doing
- I can spot the same strategy working in two different games or sports
The kid who never gets tagged
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Every park has one. Not the fastest kid β often one of the smallest. In tag they're never caught. In keepings-off they always seem to be exactly where the ball lands. Chase them and they're gone; ignore them and they score. The fast kids run twice as far and win half as much. What's going on? Here's the secret: that kid isn't winning with their legs. They're winning with their brain β watching where everyone is, moving BEFORE they need to, choosing the moment nobody expects. It has a name, every champion in every sport uses it, and by the end of today it belongs to you too.
