- I can explain why 4 × 6 and 6 × 4 must have the same answer
The muffin tray mystery
Connects to what your guest already knows and makes them curious. Activating prior knowledge is one of the strongest predictors of new learning.
Grab a muffin tray, an egg carton, or picture a chocolate block. A baker slides out a tray with 4 rows of 6 muffins. Her helper starts counting: 'one, two, three...' The baker just glances at it and says '24'. She didn't count — she SAW it. Today you learn to see numbers the way she does.
